Pinhal Golf Course opened in 1976. The original course was designed by architect Frank Pennink, and in 1985 the famous architect, Robert Trent Jones, introduced several modifications. As a result, different styles are apparent in the layout. The front nine meander through umbrella pine woods while the back nine, returning gently uphill, wind through terrain that opens up to magnificent sea views.
This course, although more open than The Old Course, demands accuracy off the tees, especially for the first 5 or 6 holes. The smaller greens also mean that you have to be on top of your short game to score well. Last but not least the 18th hole, with the final approach shot probably the most daunting of all, just when you thought you could relax and look forward to a well deserved drink in the beautifully refurbished clubhouse!
